Before you buy

How does the cover attach to my ute?

It attaches via a continuous shock cord rope that is hooked over buttons riveted to the outside of the ute tub.

Can I carry loads that stick out past the tailgate?

Yes. One or more sections of the cover can be left unhooked, which gives you great flexibility when carrying loads that protrude from the rear of the tub.

How do I get full access to the tub?

The cover can be removed in less than 30 seconds for complete access to the tub. Putting it back on is just as easy.

Will water pool on the cover?

No. A zinc plated steel support bar keeps the cover tight and stops water pooling.

Double check for tub or tray!

Through my own fault, not Aussie Tonneaus, I ordered the wrong tonneau cover for my ute. I checked the make, year, etc but didn't take in that it was for a tub. All good, though, in country SA there are plenty of Hilux owners to pass it on to. My experience with Aussie Tonneaus was great. Easy to order online and fast delivery.

Does the job.

The cover requires a bit of workmanship to install as you have to drill holes in your tub. You also have to cut the stretchy rope bit to length and tie it off and because I wasn’t sure how best to do thatI haven’t yet done it. The cover does ride up in the back corners sometimes, but doesn’t if you hook the cord over the tailgate latch handles…but this looks a bit untidy. Also, my fuel consumption has gone down and I get about 30 kms extra per tank without the canopy and after installing the tonneau cover!!

Good tonneau

Looks great and I managed to fit it with minimal drilling of holes to the tub. I tried it without using the center hook on the tailgate and so far so good and it is holding tight with no water ingress/

Great Tonneau

Great ute cover practical and old school easy to take on an off without having to drill lots of holes in the tray. It made so much sense to me to have a cover that used the J-hooks there was nothing like that in NZ so had to order one from over the ditch. Cheers guys much appreciated

I had an original Toyota tonneau cover before so here are my pros and cons of ATs one:
PROS:
- Full tray cover
- Light weight
- Cost effective (non-negotiable)
- Customisable centre rod
CONS:
- Had to drill into my tub
- No video showing how to install it.
- Instructions could be better
- Feeling unsure about the quality and how long it will last wear and tear wise.
